Make Sample Feedback Actionable: Keep, Change, Compare

“Almost right” is useful feedback only when your supplier knows what needs to change.

For nail-brand buyers and product developers, a clear sample review can help turn a visual preference into a more focused next sampling brief.

Start by separating what you want to keep from what you want to adjust.

Perhaps the colour direction is right, but you want a less prominent effect. Perhaps the reflection is appealing, but the finish needs to look different over your chosen base shade. Describe these as targets for evaluation—not as confirmed causes or guaranteed adjustments.

A concise feedback note can cover three points:

• Keep: Which part of the sample matches your concept?

• Change: What visible difference would you like to evaluate next?

• Compare: Which labelled sample or reference best illustrates that direction?

Include the base shade, formulation or application system, and method used. Where possible, share photographs and a short video under consistent lighting, with the sample code visible.

Agree on one priority for the next comparison. If several conditions change together, it becomes harder to understand which change influenced the result.

At Yiwu Bojun Pigment, I help nail brands translate visual goals into focused pigment-sampling briefs. Any proposed option still needs evaluation in the intended formulation, application and top-coat system.

When reviewing your next effect sample, would colour direction or effect intensity be your first priority?
